Kitchen Storage with a Beautiful Bang

Adding kitchen storage can be difficult because it is not often when one can find pieces of furniture that will mesh well with the décor in the home. One way to take away the distress of finding this to be true is to contrast it instead with mirrored furniture. Not only will the color no longer matter very much, but the mirrored look will reflect the rest of the room and create a special look that will be unique.

There are several kinds of kitchen furniture that will work as extra storage and fit wherever the available space is located. If the only room left is in a corner, there are several nice little corner shelves that are one piece that would look great there. The base can be wood in any shade desired. Adding mirrors to the doors is a rather recent idea. This is beautiful for a kitchen more so because it will make the dimensions seem so much deeper and give a warm feeling to the entire room.

Kitchen bureaus have been around for hundreds of years. Applying a mirrored finish on them has brought a new attraction to this piece. They are often a little taller than waist high on most people and come with either drawers or shelving with doors. The older ones have drawers in them with intricate detail carved or inlaid in the wood. The mirrored finish can still have much detail in it with the leaps made with glass etching and the like.

Kitchen islands have become a favorite work center for many women and men alike. This idea started out as a mobile piece that could be added in times of need. Today though, it has become a permanent fixture and a staple to any large kitchen. As time has passed and more innovative ideas have moved into the marketplace, this piece has also become popular with mirrored sides and doors as well. This, like other mirrored furniture, changes the style of an entire room.

Other storage pieces for a kitchen can be a configuration set that has cupboards top and bottom with a space in the middle. This would make a perfect piece for over a window so nothing would block the light, plus the sunlight on a mirrored work space could really add new life to the room.

Adding Functionality with an Antique Kitchen Island

Kitchens are often the heart of every home.  There is an adage that states that regardless of where a party is being thrown, guests will still congregate in the kitchen.

Even in large kitchens cooks and other food preparers often run out of space especially while preparing large meals.  Kitchen islands are a simple solution to the space problem.  Not only does an island add extra counter space, it often provides storage and preparation choices. Utilizing an island frees up your counter for other chores, or simply for providing a space to hang out in the kitchen.

Islands come in many styles.  You can go ultra modern, you can match all of your existing cabinetry or you can go funky and functional with an antique kitchen island.  Finding an antique kitchen island is easier than you think as many modern kitchens are now turning retro with their looks.  With the green movement being so prevalent, people are often recycling old furniture that can easily function as a kitchen island.

An island should be large enough to be functional, but needs to be small enough so traffic in a busy kitchen is not hindered.  Kitchen traffic can be hectic during that dinner rush time, and a well planned island is an excellent solution.  Some kitchen islands are equipped with built in cutting boards or knife holders; some have built in shelves or drawers, and some simply provide an extra counter.

Finding an island that suits your decor is easy with a little bit of research.  You can find them in an array of styles including the popular antique look.  Adding an antique kitchen island to your home will not only beautify and simplify your kitchen, but it will become a centerpiece that you enjoy showing off to all of those guests that meander into the ever populated kitchen.

The Kitchen Hutch – a Small Kitchen’s Friend

One of the toughest challenges when decorating a small kitchen is finding ample storage space. Usually, a small kitchen has very limited cabinet space. An excellent alternative to kitchen islands is the addition of a kitchen hutch.

Kitchen hutches come in various sizes and designs. You can easily find a hutch that will fit into any kitchen decor. Most often, a kitchen hutch will have storage cabinets at the bottom with solid front doors. This gives you a place to store whatever kitchen items you need to without them being visible to guests. This will keep your kitchen from appearing cluttered. For items you want to display, the top portion of a hutch is usually open shelving or has glass front doors. The upper portion of a hutch is a good place to store dishes, bowls, small appliances and cookware. Colorful dishes placed on the hutch can actually add to the decor of your kitchen.

Selecting a hutch that has one or two drawers will give you a place to store silverware, table linens and other small items. Some kitchen hutches have shelving space for a microwave. Selecting this style will leave kitchen counter space open for other purposes.

A corner hutch works well in a small kitchen. It utilizes what might otherwise be unused space. There are narrow, tall, corner hutch units available that will fit into a very small corner yet provide a considerable amount of storage space.

You can use a kitchen hutch to set up your computer if your computer is located in your kitchen. There are corner units and standard type units available that will offer a compact home office area in your kitchen.

You can find a small kitchen hutch in white, black, natural wood stain, or a combination of materials. Choosing one that compliments your decor should not be difficult. When shopping for a kitchen hutch, you should select a style that offers you the optimum amount of storage space as well as the specific type of storage space you need.
