Adding Functionality with an Antique Kitchen Island

Kitchens are often the heart of every home.  There is an adage that states that regardless of where a party is being thrown, guests will still congregate in the kitchen.

Even in large kitchens cooks and other food preparers often run out of space especially while preparing large meals.  Kitchen islands are a simple solution to the space problem.  Not only does an island add extra counter space, it often provides storage and preparation choices. Utilizing an island frees up your counter for other chores, or simply for providing a space to hang out in the kitchen.

Islands come in many styles.  You can go ultra modern, you can match all of your existing cabinetry or you can go funky and functional with an antique kitchen island.  Finding an antique kitchen island is easier than you think as many modern kitchens are now turning retro with their looks.  With the green movement being so prevalent, people are often recycling old furniture that can easily function as a kitchen island.

An island should be large enough to be functional, but needs to be small enough so traffic in a busy kitchen is not hindered.  Kitchen traffic can be hectic during that dinner rush time, and a well planned island is an excellent solution.  Some kitchen islands are equipped with built in cutting boards or knife holders; some have built in shelves or drawers, and some simply provide an extra counter.

Finding an island that suits your decor is easy with a little bit of research.  You can find them in an array of styles including the popular antique look.  Adding an antique kitchen island to your home will not only beautify and simplify your kitchen, but it will become a centerpiece that you enjoy showing off to all of those guests that meander into the ever populated kitchen.
